RESUMO

While ß-peptides have been paid attention due to their diverse secondary structures, their application to the design of low-molecular-weight gelators (LMWGs) is less explored. In this work, chiral cyclic ß-amino acid-based ß-peptides were developed as ambidextrous LMWGs, wherein multiple hydrogen bonds between the amide moieties led to high gelation ability. Their molecular assembly was elucidated using spectroscopies, microscopy, and X-ray analysis. Further, the supramolecular gel was used as a platform for the enantioselective extraction of (S)-naproxen from its racemate under optimized conditions. These findings have expanded the utility of ß-peptides and shown the potential of supramolecular gels as a distinct dynamic medium for enantiomer separation.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on enhancing frontline health professionals' ability to think and act innovatively, also known as their creative performance. However, previous research has had two limitations. First, only a few leadership styles and their associations with this capability have been examined. Second, there has been a lack of research on identifying potential process mediators and examining their role in the relationship between leadership styles and the professionals' capability. To address this knowledge gap, our study investigates the impact of ambidextrous leadership, a relatively new leadership style, on frontline health professionals' creative performance. Additionally, we explore whether frontline health professionals' learning orientation (an individual factor) and relationship learning (an organizational factor) act as process mediators in this association. No previous research has focused on these relationships. Thus, the study offers a unique contribution to health services research. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study with a convenience sample of N = 258 health professionals in nine Norwegian municipalities. The results of this study were analyzed using PLS-SEM with SmartPLS 3 software. The study examined both direct and indirect relationships through bootstrapping. RESULTS: The results reveal a positive link between health professionals' creative performance and ambidextrous leadership [Formula: see text] = 0.224). Both relationship learning and learning orientation were found to operate as complementary process-mediating factors between health professionals' creative performance and ambidextrous leadership. The strength of the two individual relationships that constitute the process-mediating factors indicates that ambidextrous leadership has a stronger impact on relationship learning than on learning orientation [Formula: see text] = 0.504 versus ß = 0.276). However, when we examined the individual associations between the two factors and creative performance, the strength of the relationships was quite different. The findings reveal that learning orientation is significantly more positively associated with creative performance than relationship learning [Formula: see text] = 0.302 versus ß = 0.163). Ambidextrous leadership, learning orientation, and relationship learning explain 26% (R2 = 0.262) of the variance in professionals' creative performance. CONCLUSIONS: This study suggests that ambidextrous leadership can facilitate health professionals' creative performance directly and indirectly through the two process-mediating factors: relationship learning and learning orientation. Thus, a practical implication is the importance for health service organizations of clear awareness of the numerous advantages of having leaders who actively practice an ambidextrous leadership style.

Knowledge transfer plays a prominent role in fostering innovation among multinational corporations (MNCs), however, the exploration of reverse knowledge transfer in today's digital era remains insufficient. Therefore, we explore the impact of reverse knowledge transfer on ambidextrous innovation and the process mechanism against the backdrop of digital technology. A system dynamics model of reverse knowledge transfer is constructed from three aspects: knowledge acquisition, knowledge absorption and knowledge application. Our simulation results indicate that the dual embeddedness of multinational R&D centers promotes knowledge acquisition and absorption, enhances the knowledge base of parent companies, and facilitates ambidextrous innovation. In particular, the application of digital technology further promotes the process through knowledge absorption, with the long-term impact more pronounced. This study not only enriches the literature on reverse knowledge transfer but also expands the application of digital technology in the field of MNCs' innovation.

When planning functional grasps of tools, right-handed individuals (dextrals) show mostly left-lateralized neural activity in the praxis representation network (PRN), regardless of the used hand. Here we studied whether or not similar cerebral asymmetries are evident in non-righthanded individuals (adextrals). Sixty two participants, 28 righthanders and 34 non-righthanders (21 lefthanders, 13 mixedhanders), planned functional grasps of tools vs. grasps of control objects, and subsequently performed their pantomimed executions, in an event-related functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) project. Both hands were tested, separately in two different sessions, counterbalanced across participants. After accounting for non-functional components of the prospective grasp, planning functional grasps of tools was associated with greater engagement of the same, left-hemisphere occipito-temporal, parietal and frontal areas of PRN, regardless of hand and handedness. Only when the analyses involved signal changes referenced to resting baseline intervals, differences between adextrals and dextrals emerged. Whereas in the left hemisphere the neural activity was equivalent in both groups (except for the occipito-temporo-parietal junction), its increases in the right occipito-temporal cortex, medial intraparietal sulcus (area MIP), the supramarginal gyrus (area PFt/PF), and middle frontal gyrus (area p9-46v) were significantly greater in adextrals. The inverse contrast was empty. Notably, when individuals with atypical and typical hemispheric phenotypes were directly compared, planning functional (vs. control) grasps invoked, instead, significant clusters located nearly exclusively in the left hemisphere of the typical phenotype. Previous studies interpret similar right-sided vs. left-sided increases in neural activity for skilled actions as handedness dependent, i.e., located in the hemisphere dominant for manual skills. Yet, none of the effects observed here can be purely handedness dependent because there were mixed-handed individuals among adextrals, and numerous mixed-handed and left-handed individuals possess the typical phenotype. Thus, our results clearly show that hand dominance has limited power in driving the cerebral organization of motor cognitive functions.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to empirically examine the role of ambidextrous leadership on employees' ambidexterity and job-directed performance. Ambidextrous leadership encompasses a leader's capability to stimulate exploitative and explorative activities in employees. Specifically, the study explores in detail how ambidextrous leadership is linked to two types of job-directed performance in health professionals, namely service quality of care and creativity, in addition to what role employee ambidexterity has in this relationship. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was developed, and data were gathered through convenience sampling of N = 258 health professionals of in-home care services across municipalities based in Norway. The study's conceptual model was analyzed through structural equation modeling partial least squares with SmartPLS 3 software. Mediation by Bootstrap was used to analyze the indirect relationships. RESULTS: Ambidextrous leadership was found to have a direct impact on both employee service and quality of care ([Formula: see text] = 0.236) and employee ambidexterity ([Formula: see text] = 0.395). The direct relationship between ambidextrous leadership and employee creativity was nonsignificant. However, the relationships between ambidextrous leadership and service quality of care and creativity were both mediated by employee ambidexterity. Finally, the results reveal that employee creativity mediated the relationship between employee ambidexterity and service quality of care. CONCLUSIONS: The results show that ambidextrous leadership and employee ambidexterity promote the job-directed performance of health professionals. Thus, a practical implication is that health-care organizations should recruit, train, and develop their leaders to become ambidextrous leaders, in addition to being aware of the multiple direct and indirect effects of practicing ambidextrous leadership. Doing so will have a direct positive impact on the level of service quality and employee ambidexterity.

As the global digital transformation process accelerates, how SMEs can successfully achieve digital transformation is currently an important research question in the field of strategic management and a real-life dilemma that entrepreneurs need to address. This study classifies business model innovation into market-driven business model innovation and driving-market business model innovation based on market orientation theory. The relationship between digital ambidextrous capabilities, business model innovation and transformation performance is explored according to the paradigm of 'capability-behaviour-performance'. This study used SEM and fsQCA to analyze 289 questionnaires collected from middle and senior managers of Chinese SMEs. The results show that digital exploitation capability is positively associated with market-driven business model innovation, while digital exploration capability is positively associated with driving-market business model innovation. In particular, business model innovation plays a fully mediating role in the process of digital ambidextrous capabilities enhancing the transformation performance. Our findings shed new lights on the current debate surrounding the digital transformation of SMEs and will be instructive for both academics and business managers.

While overtourism is a relatively recent term, it has nevertheless triggered a large number of publications because of its human, environmental and social challenges. This systematic review therefore aims to take stock of the literature on overtourism. A lexicometric analysis based on 236 articles reveals that research on overtourism is highly concentrated and articulated around three main themes: the management, the experience, and the context of overtourism. The findings also suggest that academic research has so far focused on the negative impacts of overtourism. Subsequently, this study is calling for an ambidextrous approach, taking into account both the negative effects of overtourism, while also considering it as an opportunity in addressing the problem.

Purpose: Our study was designed to determine ophthalmologists' dexterity in performing standard ophthalmic procedures at various levels of expertise via a structured questionnaire. Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered via the Google platform from August 20 to September 19, 2022, to assess the perspectives and preferences of ophthalmologists concerning their proficiency in using their right hand, left hand, or both hands to perform routine tasks required in the practice of ophthalmic medicine and surgery. Results: Two hundred and three participants took part in the survey. A majority (n = 162, 79.8%) of the clinicians considered themselves right-handed, nine (4.4%) considered themselves left-handed, and 32 (15.7%) considered themselves ambidextrous. Also, 86% (n = 174) of the participants considered ambidexterity an essential trait in the practice of ophthalmic medicine and surgery. The number of cataract surgeries performed had an impact on the comfort of using both hands for performing anterior vitrectomy (P < 0.001), injection of viscoelastic (P < 0.001), and toric marking (P < 0.05), but not on the performance of capsulorhexis and switching of foot pedals. The number of procedures carried out had an impact on the comfort of using both hands in gonioscopy (P < 0.001), 90 D evaluation (P < 0.001), and 20 D evaluation (P < 0.05). More years of experience had an impact on skills involving the use of both hands for slit lamp joystick usage (P < 0.05) and laser procedures (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Irrespective of a person's handedness, trained ambidexterity in the required fields is achievable and has a significant impact on one's ability to perform the required skill optimally and appropriately.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic was an international systemic crisis which required an unprecedented response to quickly drive the digital transformation of hospitals and health care systems to support high quality health care while adhering to contagion management protocols. OBJECTIVE: To identify and assess the best practices during the COVID-19 pandemic by Chief Information Officers (CIOs) about how to build resilient healthcare IT (HIT) to improve pandemic preparedness and response across global settings and to develop recommendations for future pandemics. METHODS: We conducted a qualitative, interview-based study to sample CIOs in hospitals. We interviewed 16 CIOs from hospitals and health systems in the United States and Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. We used in-depth interviews to capture their perspectives of the preparedness of hospitals' information technology departments for the pandemic and how they lead their IT department out of the pandemic. RESULTS: Results showed that healthcare CIOs were ambidextrous IT leaders who built resilient HIT by rapidly improving existing digital business practices and creating innovative IT solutions. Ambidextrous IT leadership involved exploiting existing IT resources as well as exploring and innovating for continuous growth. IT resiliency focused on four inter-related capabilities: ambidextrous leadership, governance, innovation and learning, and HIT infrastructure. CONCLUSIONS: We propose conceptual frameworks to guide the development of healthcare IT resilience and highlight the importance of organizational learning as an integral component of HIT resiliency.

This article discusses the mechanism of the ambidextrous behavior of entrepreneurs in exploring and exploiting simultaneously in new ventures. We draw on social cognition theory to discuss the influence of entrepreneurial self-efficacy (ESE) on entrepreneurs' ambidextrous behavior and the moderating effect of their status. We contend that an inverted 'U' relationship exists between ESE and entrepreneurs' ambidextrous behavior. A higher economic status of an entrepreneur strengthens the relationship between ESE and that entrepreneur's ambidextrous behavior, whereas higher power status weakens the relationship. Analyses of high-tech industry entrepreneurs support our hypotheses in the context of emerging economies, represented by China.

Higher education institution is an important sector to obtain capabilities for global challenges. This study explored the mediating effect of ambidextrous capability between the link organizational leadership capability, learning orientation, and strategic flexibility on the performance of private higher education institutions in Indonesia. In this cross-sectional study, an online survey, which involved 524 rectors or deans in private higher education institutions (HEIs), was conducted using Google Forms. The accumulated data were analyzed using SEM-PLS 4.0. The findings revealed that organizational leadership capability displayed a statistically insignificant effect on organizational performance. However, learning orientation and strategic flexibility were found statistically significant effects on organizational performance. Moreover, this study also confirmed that organizational leadership capability, learning orientation, and strategic flexibility had a significant correlation with ambidextrous capability. The relationship between organizational performance and ambidextrous capability was identified as having no significant relationship. Apparently, organizational leadership capability, learning orientation, and strategic flexibility had no significant effect on organizational performance through ambidextrous capability. This study confirmed that ambidextrous capability had no mediating effect between organizational leadership capability, learning orientation, and strategic flexibility on the performance of private higher education institutions. This study found that dynamic capability theory (DCT) by identifying the mediating effect of the ambidextrous capability to gain organizational performance was not supported by the findings of this study. The ambidextrous capability may be applied to devise effective strategies and policies that can enhance organizational performance of different sectors.

AIM: To test the relationships among staff nurses' work engagement, nurse managers' ambidextrous leadership and staff nurses' clinical leadership and workload. DESIGN: A multicentre cross-sectional survey design was used. METHODS: The study was conducted in eight medical centres from six representative provinces of China in October 2019. The participants completed electronic questionnaires that measured ambidextrous leadership, clinical nurse leadership, workload and work engagement. We used structural equation modelling to test a hypothetical model. RESULTS: The hypothetical model had a good fit to the actual data. Ambidextrous leadership was positively associated with clinical nurse leadership and work engagement, and clinical nurse leadership had a significant positive relationship with work engagement, which partially mediated the path from ambidextrous leadership to work engagement. In addition, workload moderated the relationship between ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership. CONCLUSION: This study makes a timely contribution to the nursing literature by demonstrating that nurse managers' ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership are important determinants of work engagement. Improving the level of ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership helps to enhance work engagement. IMPACT: This study provides a new strategy to increase nurses' work engagement from a new perspective of nursing leadership. Enhancing nurse managers' ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership can increase work engagement. Nurse managers should value the role of ambidextrous leadership and clinical nurse leadership in promoting work engagement, especially when nurses perceive they have a low workload.

This research focuses on the moderation effects of Hofstede's cultural dimension that influence the relation between ambidextrous leadership and export performance in Born Global Firms in two countries with different cultural characteristics, Vietnam and Colombia. We collected the data from 800 exporting firms in two countries, Colombia and Vietnam, that are characterised by their having begun international operations in the first three years of being Born Global. The results demonstrate that ambidextrous leadership has a positive impact on export performance. Additionally, the dimensions of uncertainty avoidance and indulgence moderate the relation between ambidextrous leadership and export performance, while long-term orientation does not affect the relationship.

As an important factor in enhancing individual creativity, employees' psychological capital has been widely tested by scholars. However, the effects of ambidextrous human resource practices (AHRP) on individual creativity has not been confirmed. On the basis of the theories of social exchange and resource preservation, we explored the mechanism of AHRP's impact on individual creativity using three-point data collected from March to September 2021 from 23 large enterprises in the service, finance, construction, and education sectors in five Chinese cities: Wuhan, Shanghai, Guangdong, Shenzhen, and Zhengzhou. A cross-layer regression and a Monte Carlo sampling analysis were performed on 135 pairs of leaders and 810 employees. In addition, we tested the cross-layer mediating effect of the psychological capital between AHRP and individual creativity and the boundary effect of the quality of leader-member exchange (QLMX) in the cross-layer effect. Research results indicate that (1) AHRP have positive effects on individual creativity across layers; (2) psychological capital mediates the cross-layer relationship between AHRP and individual creativity; (3) QLMX moderates the direct effect of AHRP on employees' psychological capital; and (4) QLMX moderates the indirect effect of AHRP on individual creativity through psychological capital. The research conclusions lay a theoretical foundation for AHRP at the organizational level and provide a guiding reference for the enhancement of employee creativity at the individual level.

The survival and success of organizations increasingly depend on creativity. A Supervisor Creative Feedback Environment is of special value in enhancing team creativity, but few studies have explored the relationship between the supervisor creative feedback environment and creativity and how it affects creativity. Based on feedback intervention theory and triadic reciprocal determinism, this paper explores the process mechanism and boundary conditions of the supervisor creative feedback environment affecting team creativity from the perspectives of ambidextrous learning and team creative cognitive style. With 506 team members from 115 work teams in domestic enterprises as research samples, regression analysis was used to test the theoretical hypotheses. Feedback intervention, according to the feedback intervention theory, is a complicated process. There are various influencing factors, such as the feedback provider, means of feedback intervention, the content of the feedback information, situational factors, and the feedback recipients (Junwei, 2003). The leading creative feedback loop includes important feedback receiver's factors which are not mentioned above. Triadic reciprocal determinism holds that individual behavior is formed by the interaction and interconnection of individual, environment, and behavior. The two above-mentioned theories can explain why the leadership creative feedback environment can affect team creativity by influencing ambidextrous learning. The results also show that the feedback environment of supervisor creativity has positive effects on team creativity. Ambidextrous learning mediates the relation between supervisor creative feedback environments and team creativity. Team creative cognitive style has a positive moderating effect on the indirect relationship between a supervisor creative feedback environment and team creativity through ambidextrous learning. This study validates feedback intervention theory and triadic reciprocal determinism, expands the application of feedback environment factors in the research field of team creativity, provides a theoretical framework for the influence of the creative feedback environment on team creativity, and also provides theoretical support for managers to apply the management tool of a supervisor creative feedback environment to organizational context to improve team creativity. Based on the research results, this paper puts forward corresponding management suggestions from the aspect of creating a supervisor creative feedback environment, attaching importance to team ambidextrous learning, and making good use of creative cognitive style.

Purpose: In the current competitive environment of increased uncertainty and instability, it is of significance to promote employee voice behavior. To discuss the issue of how to promote employee voice behavior both effectively and reasonably, this study focuses on ambidextrous leadership, which consists of two seemingly opposite yet potentially complementary behaviors-transformational and transactional leadership-and investigates its influence mechanism on employees' voice behavior, using work motivation as a mediator and ambidextrous culture as a moderator. Methods: Enterprise employees and their direct supervisors from 78 work teams in China were surveyed, and 387 sets of paired data were analyzed using data analysis software, such as HLM, SPSS, and AMOS. Results: The results reveal that ambidextrous leadership can significantly positively predict employee voice behavior. Employee work motivation plays a partial mediating role in the positive correlation between ambidextrous leadership and voice behavior. Additionally, organizational ambidextrous culture positively moderates the correlation between ambidextrous leadership and the work motivation of employees. The greater the ambidextrous culture of teams is, the stronger the positive correlation between ambidextrous leadership and the work motivation of employees. Conclusion: Leadership plays an important role in promoting employee voice behavior. Therefore, understanding how ambidextrous leadership style can effectively promote voice behavior is important for companies to utilize the power of their employees to respond quickly to change and drive innovative transformation. This study contributes to existing research by revealing how ambidextrous leadership impact employee voice behavior through work motivation, which provides new evidence for the emerging ambidextrous leadership theory and helps to understand the relationship between employee work motivation and voice behavior more comprehensively; it also identifies organizational ambidextrous culture as organizational context factor which moderate the effect of ambidextrous leadership on work motivation.

AIMS: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the innovative and ambidextrous leadership qualities of nurses from the students' perspective with the structural model. BACKGROUND: Nurses with leadership qualities help students become nurses with a leading spirit and be open to innovations. MATERIALS AND METHODS: It is a cross-sectional and correlational study. The sample consisted of 286 nursing students in eastern Turkey. To collect the data, a Descriptive Information Form, the Innovative Leadership Scale, and the Ambidextrous Leadership Scale were used. Structural equation model, multiple group analysis, maximum likelihood estimation, and fit indexes were utilized to evaluate the data. RESULTS: Student nurses reported that the nurses' opening and closing behaviors affected being entrepreneur (ß2 = 0.42; ß2 = 0.24), motivating others (ß2 = 0.45; ß2 = 0.22), being open to new ideas (ß2 = 0.21; ß2 = 0.16), being a changemaker (ß2 = 0.20), and being energetic (ß2 = 0.13) in a positive and meaningful way. According to those who thought they had innovative qualities, the ambidextrous leadership behaviors of nurses significantly affected being entrepreneur, motivating others, and being open to new ideas, which are among innovative leadership behaviors (Z > 1.96; p < 0.05). CONCLUSION: As nurses' opening and closing behaviors increased, innovative leader qualities such as being an entrepreneur, being open to new ideas, motivating others, being a changemaker, and being energetic also increased. Innovative students evaluated the leadership qualities of nurses positively. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING EDUCATION: The study contributes to students' recognition and evaluation of leadership and innovation qualities that nurses should have.

There are two well-known truths about Japan: one is that Japan is one of the most advanced economies, which takes pride in its highly advanced technology, social infrastructure and system; the other is that Japan ranks lowest at women's social participation among Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development countries. Even though the Japanese government has initiated programs to promote female participation and advancement in society, these initiatives have not yet borne remarkable fruit. This study intends to address this issue by investigating the effectiveness of female leadership in Japan, specifically its effect on organizations' gender diversity and inclusion (D&I) climate and employees' task-related positive attitudes. Synthesizing social information processing theory and social identity theory, the study examines 306 Japanese employees working with their female supervisors in medium- and large-sized manufacturing companies. The findings show that female ambidextrous leadership contributes to shape and strengthen a gender D&I climate and ultimately enhances employees' hope on their work. In addition, the positive effect of a gender D&I climate on employees' hope is the same for all employees regardless of gender. The findings clarify the role of female leadership and the underlying psychological mechanism through which female leadership influences employees' positive work attitudes. This first empirical study in Japan contributes to the research on female leadership and D&I management.

RESUMO

The present research proposes an electronic performance monitoring framework based on ambidextrous leadership and social exchange theories in a dynamic environment. It reviews and integrates essential literature on electronic performance management (EPM), trust, and ambidextrous behavior. For this, authors have reviewed relevant literature on various themes and underpinned them for managing EPM. The study emphasizes individuals' psychological foundations that demonstrate trust behavior and relationship with their leaders. Eventually, through an ambidextrous approach, managers gain steady performance and relationships with their subordinates through EPM. The study shows that ambidexterity benefits organizations; it enhances employees' resources, resulting in enhanced performance that leads to the performance of an organization. The authors discuss the theoretical as well as practical implications of this study.

Drawing on relevant literature, this study investigates the process of realizing innovation ambidexterity (IA) by proposing a theoretical model and adopting a specifically integrated mechanism with the aim to resolve strategic dilemmas in ambidextrous organizations (AOs). We analyzed a sample of 136 cross-sectional surveys collected from business managers of 132 medium- and high-tech firms in China by employing a structural equation model combined with moderation analysis to test our hypotheses. Our findings indicate that the second-order theoretical model fits the data well and AO, represented by a higher-order construct, positively affects IA. Instead of structural ambidexterity, balanced contextual ambidexterity and radical performance management can be effectively applied as the factors of the second-order construct; the design comprising balanced contextual ambidexterity and performance management is thus helpful in resolving strategic dilemmas. Our findings demonstrate that Chinese firms, as technology latecomers, are more inclined to conduct near-radical innovation. The risk of exploration crowding out exploitation efforts exists in Chinese high-tech firms. Furthermore, we provides greater insights into the moderating impact of intra-organizational practice on IA based on the fact that performance measurement balance (PMB) did not directly influence the achievement of IA and clarifies the positive role that PMB plays in improving IA.
